FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
HC: I studied Industrial Design in Rhode Island School of Design in the U.S. I've always been interested in a variety of creative fields, materials, production as well as the business aspects of design. Being an industrial designer gives me the freedom to explore all of my senses and tap into specific skills needed for the tasks at hand.
FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
HC: Ivan Leathercraft Co, Ltd is a world leading leather craft tool and supplies company. We provide innovative hand tools, machinery, hardware, craft kits and more to the global leather industry, leather craft enthusiasts and hobbyists. The company was established in 1980, we will be celebrating its 40 years anniversary in 2020.
FS: What is "design" for you?
HC: Design is a personal discipline, an energetic yet systematic process that balances aesthetic, needs, resources and economy; Integrates, simplifies and delivers outcomes that embodies all.
FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
HC: I enjoying working with different materials, metals, leather, natural fiber, wood...I tent to gravitate towards complex projects that requires the use of multiple components, materials and manufacturing techniques. I like the puzzle elements in these types of projects.
