FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
MT: My major in university was Literature. Mainly Chinese and Western Literature. One day when I know that design can change people’s lifestyle, I put my heart into design until today.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
MT: Han Yue Is an elegant and poetic name in Chinese. It means the pearl upon the Milky Way.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
MT: I like Commercial space design the most. It can achieve all kinds of possibilities.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
MT: I love to see new materials being added to the historic space. The beauty of inter grate old and new elements that achieve functional and splendid is a masterpiece.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
MT: A bed. A French style canopy bed.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
MT: I like try to process natural materials to see how it will become. Normally it’ll give me unexpected and surprisingly outcome.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
MT: While I am alone.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
MT: In my opinion that functionality and beauty is the basic of design. The more I care about would be the use experience.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
MT: Excitement and expectation.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
MT: To be honest, quite calm. I was more excited when the work during processed.

FS: What makes a design successful?
MT: The clients that can let me freely develop my design.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
MT: Beauty or not is the basic consideration.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
MT: How to improve and elevate life’s quality at the same time while taking care environment and not wasting life style.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
MT: The details of life. You pay more attention the more interesting things you can find. These are the inspirations of my creation.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
MT: Nowadays designers shouldn’t be limited by traditional styles, such as Modern, Simplicity, Classical…etc. But try more different style to collision and fusion that create another result.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
MT: I was born in Taiwan and I live in Taiwan. Here in Taiwan we have numerous cultural integration. So the most important lesson of my life is how to make ‘Taiwan Aesthetics ‘ outstanding from numerous cultures.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
MT: I’ll immediately have many possibilities of design to analysis and consideration in my mind while entering the new space. Usually I’ll choose two or three options to continue.

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
MT: In my opinion that young designers have well-understand and variety of design. But they can have more communication with site in order to make their work more completely.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
MT: Communication. It’s very important to know how to communicate with client and suppliers.

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
MT: AutoCAD and Sketchup. I usually use pen and paper to develop concept of design.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
MT: Probably 3 days or a month. Depends on the project.
