Interview with Atelier Varadinum at Wednesday 26th of April 2017 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? AV: I always liked drawing and math and I thought architecture faculty would be a good choice. It seems it was not, so after five years of study I went back to what I liked from the very beginning: drawing and technical drawing. Design practice seems to be facilitated by them. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? AV: We are a young team that puts passion in what it does ... and it seems that the results begin to be noticed. FS: What is "design" for you? AV: Design often resembles solving a math problem with another method. Is like finding the answer to a riddle. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? AV: I like to design complex works. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? AV: I have always appreciated the geodesic domes of Buckminster Fuller. I believe that the possibilities offered by them can be explored more. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? AV: The Seed of Life Lamp. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? AV: I prefer wood and laser cutting technology. FS: When do you feel the most creative? AV: When I have a pencil in my hand ... with hardness 2b. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? AV: I often focus on technical, structural aspects. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? AV: Often the whole range ... from agony to ecstasy. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? AV: In most cases, the satisfaction. FS: What makes a design successful? AV: Public appreciation FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? AV: I wonder if I could have done it better... or at least if I could have done it that way. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? AV: To design with soul ... nothing more. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? AV: Technology is moving faster, design algorithms have begun to appear. I do not know what the future of the design is, but I know that in the case of regular polyhedrons there will be no surprise. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? AV: Inspiration comes from the people around. We feed creativity with a lot of geometry ... many squares and triangles. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? AV: I would say it's an archimedian style. It is possible that the practice of origami as a hobby has caused it.
