Interview with Jien-An Lai at Monday 24th of April 2017 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? JL: Space for many people is a vague concept, it does not have the characteristics of the entity makes everyone unconsciously ignore it but unknowingly deeply affected, but thus become my most fascinating creative media. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? JL: The design team was established in Tianjin, China, we are committed to the promotion and creation of indoor and outdoor space design value. They always think and redefine the purpose of the use of space, so as to reconstruct the space conditions and explore the various states of function and beauty coexist to create a design that triggers emotional resonance. FS: What is "design" for you? JL: One of my greatest pleasures of life. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? JL: Any work with 100% trst from client,because it makes us to focus on design with 100% mind. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? JL: Almost the latest is my favorite. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? JL: A single house residential. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? JL: Those with natural texture of the material, wood, stone, metal. FS: When do you feel the most creative? JL: When the customer gives full confidence. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? JL: Subvert the existing possibilities. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? JL: Expectation, anxiety, excitement,circulation and coexistence of the three. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? JL: Lost,Maybe exiting for 3 days,and then I have to focus on the next one. FS: What makes a design successful? JL: People take the initiative to make it as a part of their own lives. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? JL: What is the purpose of the design? FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? JL: Make it better in a better way. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? JL: A.I. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? JL: I Don't have any plan. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? JL: I don't Know,I think,as long as alive, anything that my body receives will synthesize ideas in an incomprehensible way. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? JL: I hate the style, which means that innovation has been kidnapped by reality. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? JL: Live in both cities,Tianjin,China,and Taipei,Taiwan.I think,sincere genius, naturally in the design to show their cultural background, it should be said to be inevitable. The lack of judgment of beauty is a common phenomenon of society, and it is also an advantage and a disadvantage. FS: How do you work with companies? JL: Put more time and effort to communicate. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? JL: Creatively integrate complex practical conditions to achieve the purpose of use. This is a good designer should have the quality. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? JL: Thinking, no matter what I am doing.Drawing,no matter what I am thinking. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? JL: Bed, chair, desk, computer, toilet. FS: Can you describe a day in your life? JL: Dream every where,and try to make it happen. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? JL: Make sure you love it. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? JL: People can not figure out what I would think of,it's the same answer to the both side. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? JL: Always redifine "golden rule". FS: What skills are most important for a designer? JL: Keep alive with dream. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? JL: AutoCAD FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? JL: Team work,it makes me has an outsider's view. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? JL: 3 months. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? JL: haha,How could I get your design in free? FS: What was your most important job experience? JL: As a designer in LWM Architects firm. FS: Who are some of your clients? JL: Lee Jieun hair styling Co.,Ltd.,and some Mr. and Mrs. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? JL: Any work with 100% trst from client,because it makes us to focus on design with 100% mind. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? JL: Always think and redefine the purpose of the use of space, so as to reconstruct the space conditions and explore the various states of function and beauty coexist to create a design that triggers emotional resonance.
