Li Liu
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
LL: I majored in design,and got my master’s degree through the Advanced Program for Architectural Engineering and Design of Tsinghua University.The love for nature and life,and passion for my major make who I am.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
LL: Zhengzhou Zhuxiang Architectural Decoration Design Co., Ltd,which is dedicated to provide space design and supporting display design to commercial investors and individual clients and focus on the space design and research on finished house design concerning the real estate.Design scope: real estate (sales center, club, public space, business space, showrooms of roughcast and deluxe rooms, finished house); commercial investors and individual clients (hotel, food & beverage, commercial space, club, individual custom-made); integration of display design and supporting. Zhuxiang Design Agency has registered two design companies namely Hong Kong Zhuxiang and Zhengzhou Zhuxiang, owning two original display design brands namely “Benmo” and “Zhongjian”; we focus on the R& D of original design products, and act as an agent for internationally famous furniture and light fittings, and provide supporting service for various space designs.We own a great number of design elites full of spirits of craftsmen, starting from clients’ resident experience, we provide various product design and consultancy, and focus on the design and research of finished houses on the basis of behaviors and spirits of clients in the daily life; and obtain many design awards at home and aboard in the past years, own outstanding international partners and strategic alliances supporting each other. Our team aims at researches on the space value and creates more added values through design so as to maximize the design value.

FS: What is "design" for you?
LL: Nature,simplicity are always my design concept.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
LL: Design inspiration originates from illumination of nature.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
LL: Something simple but practical and thoughtful.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
LL: Currently, the accelerating pace of life makes city naturally cuts off from nature and high-skyscrapers.What I intend to do is to highlight space atmosphere through natural elements,trying to evoke human's yearning and demand for nature.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
LL: Chinese style,like dyed silk fabrics, creamy white embroidery wall hangings, coppery metal plate,dyeing wood with bronze mist, (white, gray) granite, bamboo.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
LL: When I can gradually meet the demand and take consideration of human's behavior and mind,making sure the landing and achievement of function and details in the space.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
LL: Nature and simplicity.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
LL: Peaceful,tranquil and passionate.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
LL: Sense of achievement and satisfaction.

FS: What makes a design successful?
LL: Abundant materials and advertisements seen everywhere have tied all people to the commerce, as a result, we are confused of the true life. As far as the showroom, the program acts in an opposite way, instead of daily encumbrance, and returns to the nature just as it should be.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
LL: The demand and consideration of human's behavior and mind,making sure the landing and achievement of function and details in the space.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
LL: To simplify complicated designs and beautify dull works.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
LL: Technology will be used more in design to inspire us more.Still it should be nature-oriented.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
LL: I do wish to have my own exhibition.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
LL: Design inspiration originates from illumination of nature.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
LL: Everything originates from nature and should be higher than nature,what I usually consider is to leave blankness for viewers to imagine.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
LL: I am currently living in Henan.As one of the four ancient civilizations,China has long history and creates many splendid cultures.The ancient culture once had great influence on the me.Painting,clothing and architecture have many things in common.And each kind of cultural form contains numerous intentions.What I still have to explore is the perfect combination of Chinese culture,nature and customers' expectation.

FS: How do you work with companies?
LL: Being an enthusiastic inspirer,harder worker and also to work in a team.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
LL: Leaving room for designers to put their imagination,ability into full play,blame less,encourage more. Stick on to their own insights but accept advisable suggestions.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
LL: The cooperation between stuff providers and constructors should be more smoothly and effectively in later work completion.

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
LL: pencil,whiteboard ,gouache paint

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
LL: Drawing,enjoying latest design works from magzines, doing sports,listening to music,watching film,meeting friends.

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
LL: To focus more on nature andl life,which are usually the source of great works. Stick on to what you love and try your utmost to every small work with perseverance and practice.

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
LL: Always can creat novel but practical design is demanding.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
LL: Illumination of nature,simplicity.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
LL: To focus on your own thought,and do not follow the trend blindly.

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
LL: pencil,drawing board

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
LL: To splite it smartly and to set a main task per day.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
LL: It varies from case to case.Several days to half a year.

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
LL: Novel but practical design.

FS: What was your most important job experience?
LL: To participate in various design competitions.

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
LL: Chinese Style.

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
LL: I wish this competition will continuously inspires me more and to produce better works for society as a whole. To have my own exhibition.

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
LL: Of course.
