Interview with Francesco Taddei

Home > Designer Interviews > Francesco Taddei

Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Francesco Taddei (FT) for A’ Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Francesco Taddei by clicking here.

Interview with Francesco Taddei at Monday 24th of April 2017
Francesco Taddei
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
FT: I recently graduated in Engineering and Architecture: my academic course has allowed me to develop both the aspects of good design and the technical knowledge to develop my ideas, going beyond the simple abstractions of my youth.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
FT: My design studio was born as a joke, mainly as a desire to develop ideas and concepts that I have collected and sketched over the years on my personal notebook.

FS: What is "design" for you?
FT: This is a complex question, I can briefly say that what differentiates design from the simple development of an object of any nature is to continuously consider the interaction with the user, that is, the human figure.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
FT: As an engineer and architect I mainly work on building projects, but I consider furniture as an integral part of the project so every now and then I enjoy developing some particular element.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
FT: I admire products designed by Jonathan Ive for Apple, I always find them well-balanced and "accurate", I confess that I use their website every now and then as a source of indirect inspiration.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
FT: A few years ago I made designed some table lamps for the furnishing of a yacht, it was an extremely professional training experience.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
FT: Certainly wood, besides being environmentally sustainable material, is also easy to work in person with the use of economic equipment.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
FT: When I'm mentally free, or when I'm not overwhelmed by problems and everyday activities. It is no coincidence that I have developed some of my best ideas during holiday periods or while walking with my girlfriend.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
FT: Once again, I'm an architect, but also an engineer, so while drawing I always repeat: make it work.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
FT: Being an activity for me naturally is clear to me for serenity, but I do not conceal that there are times when anger takes over, especially when I understand that I have made some avoidable mistakes.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
FT: I do not hide, it's like seeing a child born.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
FT: Surely a revolution in the industry will be due to the implementation of virtual reality as well as 3D printing.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
FT: I have always lived in italy, and I firmly believe that it is the home of visual arts. For example, wandering in the center of Florence reminds me that I am in the best place in the world to develop my creativity from every point of view.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
FT: I think a good designer should be chosen like this: if you know how to accomplish your ideas, then you're a good designer.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
FT: As I have already said, I always say to myself: make it work.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
FT: Surely today, with the concept of space and proportions, computer skills are also added: the use of modern software often makes it possible to greatly increase the creative potential and simplify some process of development.

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
FT: I daily use my notebook to pinpoint ideas and reflections, but mainly my computer. I use CAD software everyday in addition to the Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign), but I also visit some internet sites such as Pinterest or Contemporist.

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
FT: My project would be to develop a company that deals with 360 degrees of architecture, engineering and design, exploring the possibilities offered by new technologies such as 3d printing or VR. I'm already working on it with my former university companion.

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
FT: It depends. Let's say I prefer to work in teams because a comparison with different ideas leads to a better end result.

FS: How can people contact you?
FT: I reply quickly to emails sent to the following address: francesco.taddei@icloud.com

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
