FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
FC: I came from a family in which creativity was surely present. My father was an architect as well. I had, since childhood, the possibility of meeting with interesting figures of the art and craft. Indeed I've always thought of myself as a creator.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
FC: My firm as a long tradition and as always been based in the mainland area of Venice, in the city of Mestre in Italy. In the past 20 years the firm expanded and has a branch in the USA, New York.

FS: What is "design" for you?
FC: Design is for me giving humans a better living, better spatial and ergonomic quality.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
FC: We do not have a specific field and we were lucky enough to explore multiple scales and tasks.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
FC: As long as the design is efficient and simultasnely has functionality and esthetic that become my favorite till the next one.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
FC: It was a chair.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
FC: all sort and anytime different... (fortunately)

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
FC: anytime, any hour, any place...

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
FC: the functionality!

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
FC: the idea of having the possibility of seeing real what was just in your mind thrills me!

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
FC: it's fuel for the next one!

FS: What makes a design successful?
FC: the fact the become natural for people to use it

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
FC: the emotions that transmit, the pleasure to use it and it's functional aspects

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
FC: making a durable sustainable product is the key for us

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
FC: I would say that is such a difficult question but if I've to give an answer I would concentrate the effort in making design that is fully recyclable

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
FC: It was in Venice during the Biennale architettura. The next one in Japan

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
FC: Anything is a source, a landscape, a movie, a music, anything could be inspiring. Or is a proper brief that you recieve. Architecture and Design are everywhere!

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
FC: I would say that I do not have a style, probably some recognizable signs but any project is unique, done for company and people that are unique. My approach is rigorous to reach an essence of the project.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
FC: I live in Italy, a country that surely carries on a tradition and a culture of the good design. I do not see cons ;-) the pros are surely the possibility to work with high end companies the can offer the possibility of researching and experiment.

FS: How do you work with companies?
FC: Companies invite us to participate to their brief and submit proposal.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
FC: We learn from each other and I believe this is the best approach to summarize then a successful project.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
FC: We start by carefully understanding the client brief, that we start the development and research of the project, that we work on the proposal and start the dialog with the client until we reach the most satisfactory result for both.

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
FC: Lamp, clock, stereo, vase and plates

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
FC: too hard to answer ;-)

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
FC: Be Curious! Always, period!

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
FC: positives the fact that you can work to something that will help others living better. negatives maybe the time to reach the final production.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
FC: Never fall in love with your first sketch, but be consistent in developing your core idea.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
FC: having a sense of proportions and spaces understanding.

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
FC: hand, hand and hand again, then we move to software and modeling to test...

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
FC: It's not over until you and your client are satisfied...so time is just an aspect.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
FC: it really depends to too many factors...but if I've to say between 3 months and a year

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
FC: "how you ever think to something like this" ;-)

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
