Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Beata Greta Szatmari (BGS) for A’ Design Award and Competition. You can access the full profile of Beata Greta Szatmari by clicking here.

Interview with Beata Greta Szatmari at Wednesday 26th of April 2017

FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
BGS: Ever since I was a little girl, I was fascinated by the way clothes were made, it was a question I kept asking myself; I wanted to learn how to turn materials into clothes, so when I turned 24 I decided to seek out the answer and learn this form of art.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
BGS: I barely just started out, so I don't have a design studio yet.

FS: What is "design" for you?
BGS: Design for me means wearable art.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
BGS: Mostly I like designing evening gowns that stand out and are as original as they can be.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
BGS: Ready Folded-Wearable Art is my first collection, which was also my final project for the design school I studied at.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
BGS: 7 My favorite material is lace and I'm fascinated by how it is made.My favorite technology is of course folding fabrics, which inspired my Ready Folded collection.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
BGS: I feel creative mostly when I am at ease and surrounded by postive energy.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
BGS: I focus on the harmony between the different aspects of the design.

FS: What makes a design successful?
BGS: In my opinion creativity and effort make a design successful. The amount of energy you put in your work.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
BGS: I judge design based on their harmony. I look at the whole design at first and then look at it's details.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
BGS: I draw inspiration from different cultures around the world, so I constantly try to broad my perspective by researching traditional elements.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
BGS: I live in Romania, but by heritage I'm Hungarian and of course I attended design school in Hungary. I'm lucky enough to live close to the border, so I can experience both countries. I intend to explore my cultural heritage in my future designs. I would rather not discuss pros and cons, cause sadly there would be too much cons.

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
BGS: I would tell them to follow their dreams and don't let anybody tell them they can't succeed. Don't doubt yourself.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
BGS: Concentration and persistance.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
BGS: Strong drawing skills, visualization abilities and sewing skills, and also a good eye for materials.

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
BGS: I try to do my designs on my free time.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
BGS: That depends on how complicated the design is. A complicated design could take me months, but a simple evening dress a day or a week.

FS: Who are some of your clients?
BGS: My friends and acquaintances.

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
BGS: I plan to open my own studio and start work on my second collection.

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
BGS: I develop my designs by myself. Hopefully I will have a team around me soon to help my with the process.

FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
BGS: I have, but I would like to keep it to myself.

FS: How can people contact you?
BGS: Social media.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
