Interview with Edhuard Zverev at Monday 17th of April 2017 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? EZ: I am inspired by warriors and vikings,strong - spirited people, who are free of rules. I became a designer because I always had a desire to draw and then I found jewelry making. For me- it lets you create a pencil drawing in real world. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? EZ: Frangue - means "free" from Gallic language. And I always relate to wolf. FS: What is "design" for you? EZ: A vision that I draw on paper and then make it a reality. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? EZ: Everything for men. Well sized designs. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? EZ: It's jormungand ring. It's a composite ring - consist 3 parts and symbolize a serpent from Scandinavian mythology, which encircles the world. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? EZ: A ring with Scandinavian pattern. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? EZ: Gold. I like to work with metal, create new forms and shape it. Also really like sculpting. FS: When do you feel the most creative? EZ: At home alone, drawing to the sounds of Norse music. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? EZ: Edges and shape. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? EZ: Pride, and warrior like passion. And a trance like state when I draw. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? EZ: Satisfaction and visual excitement. FS: What makes a design successful? EZ: A fine quality, original design, shape. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? EZ: Metal work, shaping and quality. Originality of the idea behind. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? EZ: Making good designs and good quality. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? EZ: It will become simpler and to the point,using allergy- free materials. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? EZ: At a local exhibition center in Saint-Petersburg. I'm planning to exhibit abroad. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? EZ: It's a visions and desire to draw. I simply look at world around m. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? EZ: Sharp shapes,rough edges, old school designs for men with premium quality. Big sized jewelry, like in old times for warriors,Vikings. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? EZ: Saint-Petersburg, Russia. I was born in the Northern part of the country and was always influenced by vikings and wildlife,nature of North of Russia. FS: How do you work with companies? EZ: I'm just starting to. I'd like to collaborate on projects. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? EZ: Looking at works and ideas behind design, quality - then decide whether it meets their desires. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? EZ: I get a feeling, vision, inspiration and it live in my head a little time,then I start to create a design on paper. FS: Can you describe a day in your life? EZ: I get up and check my messages for new orders. Then usually I contact my production team to check on what stage jewelry production is. Then I work as a fitness trainer part time. And in the middle trying to make a name of this brand in Saint-Petersburg city. Late at night I draw new projects and create collections on paper. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? EZ: Positives is that you create your own art. Negatives are not enough orders to make money for new projects,it's unstable. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? EZ: Keep sharp edges and keep it like it belong to men. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? EZ: Ability to draw,imagination, knowing shapes and forms and how to create a balance. Of course knowing materials you work with and technology of jewelry making. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? EZ: Pencil, imagination, ruler. Rhinoceros, 3D max. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? EZ: I try to work every time I have a leisure time. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? EZ: 2 mouths minimum. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? EZ: What inspires you. FS: What was your most important job experience? EZ: Working as carpenter. Also casting metal while studying at University. FS: Who are some of your clients? EZ: Men with their own business, athletes, women who know what they want and ready to pay for good designs. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? EZ: Drawing on paper. Because it's a magical process to create by drawing on paper. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? EZ: Getting people to know Frangue in the world. Exhibit and show my works. Creating new collections. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? EZ: Right now I work with talented 3D designers,who create stl files out of my drawings. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? EZ: My new collection that I create- it's about Adams apple. The bodies,that shaped out of eaten apple.
