Interview with Tasarimca Design Office at Thursday 27th of April 2017

FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
TDO: Yes i always wanted to be a designer.Additional to my architecture education in university i workesd as ceramic art.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
TDO: Tasarımca Design Office was founded in 1994 by Burçin Dinler in Izmir, Alsancak- Turkey. The Office continues its domestic and international activities in Izmir, Bostanli-Turkey and Stamford, USA since 2010. In architectural and interior architecture areas serving Office’s the most important works are industrial buildings, residential and working spaces in the recent years. The Office continues to offer services in the same sectors in Europe under the name “B3D Architects” since 2014. The Office’s many projects have been published in major professional publications, and has won prizes and awards in various competitions. The Office works hard to create the best possible solutions for its employers by creating expert teams who aim to build a detail-complete relationship in design. The Office is approaching each project as a separate research area and an opportunity to challenge the stereotypes and improve its architectural productions in this environment.

FS: What is "design" for you?
TDO: Design is a way of expressing my thoughts.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
TDO: Villas,hotels, factory and offices.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
TDO: Villa is my favourite. Desingning something from the begining and work with the projects which shows the clients personality.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
TDO: My first design was furniture ''Decoration with resource budget'' in 1996.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
TDO: Wood,Steel ,concrete and smart home systems are my favourite.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
TDO: While listening to music.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
TDO: In villas a projects which clients can feel comfortable in offices with creative decorations.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
TDO: Designing is the way of expressing my feelings it makes me feel good to see what comes out after so many works.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
TDO: When the project in my mind is valued and strike a chord with someone else feels me that i am on the high way to success.

FS: What makes a design successful?
TDO: For me if a project is designed according to the client expectation that project is successful.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
TDO: İf a project provides clients expectations i believe that project is good.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
TDO: Designing extraordinary projects to enlarge the angle of wiew for the followers.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
TDO: If a project gives inspration to new generation i believe it is a future design.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
TDO: A designer can draw inspration from everything he can see.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
TDO: Using old materials and adapt them to modern style is my style.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
TDO: Living in Turkey.My country hosts lots of culture together thats why we have chance to work east and west synthesis together.

FS: How do you work with companies?
TDO: Additional to advertisement with refrences and exchange of letters.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
TDO: The designers backround the works made in the past and communication is all round.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
TDO: Figure out a schema according to clients expectations ,investigation,furtiture designing etc..

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
TDO: Lighting,frames,comfortable chairs ,plants and library.

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
TDO: Start a day very early in the morning come to the office,check the mails and start the desingns waiting for me.

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
TDO: Positive is to see clients happiness after all work is done.Negative is the problems which comes out during the building.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
TDO: To be sustainable.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
TDO: Have to think 3-D dimensions and micromanaging.

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
TDO: Modelling and design work programmes.

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
TDO: With the right-time planning.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
TDO: Depends on the project you are designing ,changes about 1 week to 1 month.

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
TDO: The cost of design.

FS: What was your most important job experience?
TDO: To get award from the first design is the most important experiment for me.

FS: Who are some of your clients?
TDO: Who wants to fresshness their areas.

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
TDO: Modern and industrial is my favourite.

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
TDO: To hold a place in international platform.

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
TDO: Team.

FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
TDO: Yes i do.We are working for a boutique patisserie and brasserie concept imagination and a project of 6 villas with diffferent plans
