Interview with Jia Jing, at Thursday 26th of April 2018 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? JJ: I am a university teacher. I began to work on industrial design in 06 years. I began to study ceramics in about 11 years. I think ceramics is a very interesting material. I have a lot of texture that other materials do not have. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? JJ: I work in Jingdezhen ceramics University. The school is famous for its ceramic related specialties, including ceramic design, ceramic art, ceramic sculpture, ceramic painting, ceramic materials, ceramic machinery and so on. FS: What is "design" for you? JJ: For me, design is a job that makes people feel happy in life. When people use the products you design and feel happy, I feel very valuable. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? JJ: I like the design of a special, bold and innovative idea. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? JJ: No favorite, as long as it can reflect the regional characteristics of the design, I like it. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? JJ: Tableware of the G20 Conference. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? JJ: Ceramics, large design exhibition and 3D printing technology FS: When do you feel the most creative? JJ: An open and sunny environment makes me creative. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? JJ: The interaction between the product and the person and its particularity FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? JJ: In the design of ceramic materials, we can always feel the culture of the ceramics. The ceramics originate in China and have the magic charm of the East, but there is a lack of change for hundreds of years. So I am constantly studying the new appearance of ceramics and the direction of future development. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
