Interview with Antrei Hartikainen at Tuesday 25th of April 2017 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? AH: I have made my studies with woodworking. Latest I have achieve master cabinetmaker title. All the time since vocational school I have want to create my own design and art pieces. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? AH: I'm running one man design & making studio based in Fiskars village, Finland. Concentrating in the field of wood design. Designing, prototyping and producing wood based products, objects, furnitures and sculptures. FS: What is "design" for you? AH: Balancing with form and function. Creating meaningful designs is way to give some extra value for the end user ; feeling, functionality, aesthetic. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? AH: Small object, furnitures and objects between product and sculpture FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? AH: KUKKII works are serie of wooden aesthetic. Serie contain wall and floor sculpture / shelves inspired by sensibility of nature. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? AH: Flat-packable coatrack for Finnish wood design company Nikari Oy FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? AH: Wood in all possibly forms. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? AH: Latest I was exhibiting in Stockholm Furniture Fair with my own stand. Autumn 2017 I will hold big sculpture exhibition in HelsinkiDesignWeek FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? AH: Many of my inspiration comes from the nature. Especially for my art works. Furniture design inspiration comes usually from the desire to solve some problem.
