Interview with Kim Tiziana Rottmuller at Thursday 22nd of August 2019
Kim Tiziana Rottmuller
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
KTR: Since I was a child I have had a strong interest in Fashion& Art and it was just a matter of time to become a fashion designer.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
KTR: I have started working for my own line since 2017 to introduce myself as a designer in diverse medias such as Fashion Weeks, magazines etc.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
KTR: Fashion Design for women

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
KTR: I like to work not only with fabrics but also with unusual materials like e.g. in this collection Bittersweet where iron constructions were used and transformed and were part of the garments.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
KTR: It can happen anywhere at any time whenever something porvokes me emtionally.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
KTR: Every step for me is important in the procedure and equally elaborated as they built up on each other to realize my design.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
KTR: Emotions vary, but mostly joyfully fulfilling.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
KTR: Very satisfied, happy, proud and grateful to have had the possibility to work on this project. Its a great feeling to look back at the first sketches and then seeing the final result in 3D in front of you.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
KTR: I need to get the feeling that it is an authentic work created by the designer trying to create something that I have not seen in this particular way.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
KTR: My process of design starts with the research, ideas and inspirations gathered all together and then brought together like a puzzle. Developed with the knowledge of fashion history, technical sketches, illustrations, computer work, fittings, try outs, fabric manipulation/samples, collages, moodboards etc.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
KTR: Listen to your ''gut feeling''.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
KTR: To realize a collection in my studies takes one year. From the first idea to the final result with finished outfits including things like collection book, collection development etc.

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
KTR: I am looking forward to finish my BA studies this June 2018 including a final year collection as well as finding an internship/job to gain more experience in the fashion world and learn more about the process in companies.

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
KTR: Me, myself and I. From the research, management, concept,colour/fabric board, sewing, draping, pattern making, knitting, calculations, organiszations, everything. From the theoretical to the practical.

FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
KTR: I am working on my latest collection which is going to be finished and published within this summer.

FS: How can people contact you?
KTR: www.kim-tiziana-rottmueller.com
