Interview with Yubiao Xu at Wednesday 11th of April 2018 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? YX: I graduated from Guangzhou Acmdemy of Fine Arts in China. Now I have a design company. I like everything about art. I think it's fun to create something. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? YX: We are a new design company with a total of 10 employees. We are passionate about design FS: What is "design" for you? YX: Design is a kind of art for human to change nature FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? YX: No fixed preferences. I like all the good things. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? YX: No fixed preferences. I like all the good things. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? YX: An apartment. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? YX: I like natural things and handmade things. FS: When do you feel the most creative? YX: I like to chat, chat often appear some creativity. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? YX: The relationship between space and people. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? YX: Mood? Nothing special. There will be no emotion when thinking FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? YX: Happy. FS: What makes a design successful? YX: Insist FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? YX: Logical and reasonable. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? YX: Deal with each design and their relationship. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? YX: Design tools will be more and more easy to use, everyone can be a designer. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? YX: Many sources of inspiration, mostly from life. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? YX: In fact, I do not think I belong to a particular style of design, should belong to the modern style. My design is characterized by: remove all useless things. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? YX: I live in china. Chinese culture will certainly affect every chinese. China is characterized by "fast", everything is very fast, this is the advantage and disadvantage. FS: How do you work with companies? YX: Partner. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? YX: Everyone's attitude towards the design is not the same, it is difficult to recommend. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? YX: I like to use a pencil to help me think about the paper, and finally use the computer to draw. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? YX: My home is not too much about the design items, home is just a place to rest FS: Can you describe a day in your life? YX: When customers can not understand my design will be a little negative. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? YX: Less is more.
