Interview with Satoshi Okada at Monday 24th of April 2017 FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? SO: Staoshi Okada is the leader and founder of Satoshi Okada architecs; this firm pursues intensity as core design value throughout the daily architectural practice. Satoshi Okada architects is based in Tokyo, Japan. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? SO: Satoshi Okada engaged with design at all stages and in a broad variety of appoinments, ranging from residential to commercial architecture to building for arts and culture. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? SO: Intensity, namely the potential of a design to trigger instinctive reactions in its users and visitors. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? SO: Design shall be humble and subtly intense; it should maintain a respectful attitude towards its context and thrive the local society. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? SO: Venice, IUAV, 2016. Exhibition curated by Giovanna Zuliani and Esther GIani. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? SO: Tokyo, Japan. FS: How do you work with companies? SO: Constant exchange of opinions and feedbacks in order to achieve the best possible outcome for the client. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? SO: It depends on the kind of appointment. A residential project may take one year to be designed and one year to be built. FS: Who are some of your clients? SO: Mostly private clients, private companies; FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? SO: Satoshi Okada directs and overlooks all design brought forward by his studio members. FS: How can people contact you?
