FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
VVG: Driven by my passion for wooden furniture design, I became a self-taught furniture designer.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
VVG: In 2010 I opened my own design studio in my hometown in Mexico.

FS: What is "design" for you?
VVG: Design for me is about solving people needs through imagination, creativity, and work.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
VVG: Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide variety of styles, materials, colors, textures, shapes and with different manufacturing techniques; designing tailor made high-end furniture.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
VVG: My favorite design is the Avante Sofa because its simplicity and

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
VVG: A dining table

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
VVG: Wood

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
VVG: When I am challenged to think out of the box

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
VVG: functionality, aesthetics, quality of materials and manufacturability

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
VVG: freedom and encourage

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
VVG: pride

FS: What makes a design successful?
VVG: For me, a design is successful when it accomplish its main purpose

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
VVG: Functionality, usability, aesthetics and manufacturability

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
VVG: as designers, we must be aware of developing solutions that do not become problems in the future

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
VVG: I believe that design is moving towards personalization and customization, the creation of unique solutions

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
VVG: In Cuernavaca, Mexico at Universidad Intercontinental in 2013

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
VVG: I find inspiration on basic geometrical forms and natural materials.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
VVG: Sketched with symmetry and proportion, my designs are highlighted by the natural beauty of wood and characterized by well-defined shapes.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
VVG: Born in Mexico in 1982, I live now in Germany, I do believe that my designs are somehow affected by the cultural heritage of Mexican roots.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
VVG: Throughout my creative process, principles of ergonomics and aesthetics go hand-to-hand with the careful selection of RAW materials and manufacturing techniques.

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
VVG: Sofas, dining tables, coffee tables, chairs and credenzas

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
VVG: keep it simple and natural

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
VVG: around 480.45 hours
