Interview with Tsvetan Petkov at Wednesday 20th of April 2016 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? TP: My father was an artist, so I guess it is in my blood. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? TP: I own my own workshop. The company is small but still I manage couple of people. FS: What is "design" for you? TP: A way to make that earth a better looking place to live in. At the the the day we are just visiting the third rock from the sun. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? TP: Lamps. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? TP: A sweatshirt for a fighting club members FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? TP: Wood FS: When do you feel the most creative? TP: I am creative all the time FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? TP: I feel like I am on the beach or in the mountain... pure energy FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? TP: Like I am on the top of the mountain or in the deepest blue sea FS: What makes a design successful? TP: You are the jury, so tell me next time. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? TP: The creativity and the functionality FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? TP: I have already answered. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? TP: It the design that define the future not the opposite FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? TP: In my workshop, which is opened seven days a week FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? TP: My sources... books, movies, faces, mother nature FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? TP: As an innovative one. I like exploring all the forms, styles and so on FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? TP: On Planet Earth and yes nature affects my style FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? TP: If you are a football trainer you must see the footballer with the ball. So let the designers design and choose the best one FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? TP: my table, my lamp, my sofa, my kitchen my bath tube FS: Can you describe a day in your life? TP: In a few words, no. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? TP: I am still young and I am still learning. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? TP: I think it is the best job. There are no negatives FS: What skills are most important for a designer? TP: To be creative and provocative FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? TP: I try to do things step by step FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? TP: How long does it take to live a life from begining to end? FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? TP: "How much does it cost?" FS: What was your most important job experience? TP: There is no less importatnt experience FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? TP: I adore creating things so I enjoy every type of design work FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? TP: I develop my designs by my self FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? TP: Yes I do. But they must be seen.
