Interview with Trayan Stamov at Saturday 23rd of April 2016 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? TS: For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for art and design. FS: What is "design" for you? TS: "Design" is my career. At the same time, it is more fun than work to me. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? TS: Automotive design products. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? TS: I successfully completed projects on exterior tuning design for Range Rover Sport 2010 Startech, Range Rover Vogue 2010 Startech, Jaguar XK Startech and Mercedes-Benz SLS Brabus from the research and sketching concept, through the modeling design details, up to implementation and production by BRABUS GmbH, Bottrop, Germany. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? TS: My favorite materials are materials that come from the nature. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? TS: In recent years I am interested on the emotional design. In 2014 I received a PhD degree on the emotional design concepts. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? TS: Inspiration. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? TS: Satisfaction. FS: What makes a design successful? TS: For me a successful design is not only related to the functionality of the product. The emotional benefits are also very important. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? TS: I consider a design as good, when there is nothing more to add or to remove from it. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? TS: The question about the responsibilities of designers for environment is very actual today. Everyone should be responsible towards environment protection. Since the work of the designer requires using of specific materials and technologies, it has to make sure that they are always environment friendly. In addition, since the work of a designer arouses a great deal of interests and attraction, he must be very responsible in his efforts to inspire human emotions and understandings. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? TS: In my opinion, the development of the new design strategies on the emotional effect of the contemporary design will be the future challenge for design. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? TS: My main sources of inspiration are the nature and the techniques. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? TS: A creative symbiosis between knowledge on different contemporary design techniques and a great enthusiasm FS: What skills are most important for a designer? TS: A good professional is an artist and has a talent and a passion for design. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? TS: Drawing, Modelling, Hand and digital sketching, Ability to generate new ideas, Problem-solving skills, Research skills, CAD skills (opportunity to apply CAD to vehicle design project works), Knowledge of ergonomic issues, Emotional design, Adobe Photoshop, CorelDRAW, Autodesk 3D Studio Max, V-Ray rendering, Siemens NX, Interactive and multimedia presentation FS: How can people contact you?
