Interview with Kathy Mueller at Monday 24th of April 2017 FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? KM: I often work in the areas of brand identity and promotional campaigns, with a special emphasis on special events. These projects range from commissions from small businesses, individuals, to non-profit cultural and charitable organizations. I also create self-generated projects to explore concepts and experiment with my craft. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? KM: Historical ephemera and examples of vernacular design often inform my work, and the A'Design Award winning Jukebox Boogie Charity Fundraiser Poster is a prime example. My process always begins with research, often into a particular type of vintage ephemera relevant to the project. In the case of the Jukebox Boogie campaign, I researched neon diner signage from the 1950s. FS: What was your most important job experience? KM: A balance of teaching and studio practice are essential to my personal and professional satisfaction. My love of design drives my enthusiasm in the classroom; Sharing my passion with students brings new energy to my studio practice.
