Wen Zhi Liu
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
WL: I like painting since childhood, later admitted to arts, then start reading architecture, greatly influenced by Chinese garden and the Chinese landscape painting now. I want to engaged in the design to the end of your life.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
WL: I work in the set up his own company in 2015 after 18 years, the design of a small team, in the direction of the academic research combined with the practice.

FS: What is "design" for you?
WL: Design is about different things, in certain conditions or restrictions which side of the cultural and artistic expression.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
WL: Now way of working is what I like, and study and practice, understand the world know yourself.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
WL: Used to like modernism, such as Ann TengZhongXiong, was later, carol. Scarpa and Louis kahn, now the main research direction for Chinese classical garden and landscape painting. This is from homogeneous space to how to break down. The way to the Chinese Yin and Yang as the core. Also from the divine memorial to the human body experience. So our work is given priority to with experience, and rendering of this photo is not comprehensive enough. Pursuit is picturesque beauty before, now is invited to the painting. This is not the same.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
WL: That is 22 years, is my sister's house.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
WL: Wood and the rough stone, this is very natural. The platform is a garden. Because is the natural and artificial.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
WL: The first is from the technique of carlo scarpa, second from the garden of the study, make me feel very creative. Because hard homogeneous space let a person can only feel the geometry, the geometrical relationship with people is not big, but now is popular, it is need to reflect on.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
WL: Culture and philosophy

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
WL: Curiosity and meditation

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
WL: I can only in the most commercial space to achieve my understanding of the culture. Constant exploration and practice, and different stages of implementation. There is no end.

FS: What makes a design successful?
WL: Understand and agree that, regardless of the users, designers or the builders.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
WL: When a project can give a person really content to be presented by the designer, a good content at the same time, there are levels of content. That's a classic. Rather than just looking at very beautiful.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
WL: Designer on the concept of social responsibility is to pass the works and to lead the masses in the right direction, not itself understood shallow blindly following readers also wrong. Divided into human and the natural environment is a designer in the business scope and responsibility.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
WL: This is designed to develop, and the transition from god to people. The contemporary focus on "people-oriented" not with geometry to populate the pale. Experience is important, to express the design of the "time" is a good design, and modern deviate too much design, not only visual, heavy experience will change in the future, when accumulated to a certain extent.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
WL: Main show on the Internet, every year.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
WL: Knowledge gained from books and the nature. By constantly reflect on their books, suzhou garden and landscape painting is expressing the nature, experience and views of choose and employ persons to express, so is the natural and artificial. This is an eternal theme. Only with a better understanding of the constantly progress, this is linear.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
WL: My style is contemporary Chinese style style. Because through the study found that most of today's design with a shell and is divided into two express direction, one is a square, a deformed ellipse. Is the pursuit of visual, expression form and see the nature. The feelings of people is not respected. Life and time can't see. So I looked in the Chinese classical garden and landscape painting, twists and turns and changes of multilayer space is my characteristic, composition and node on the expression of Yin and Yang, and willing to get lost in space, let time to forget, to express life with time!

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
WL: I come from guangzhou, China, I love the Chinese culture.

FS: How do you work with companies?
WL: Every project I create, including document and design specification, and then made by assistant to assist the computer.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
WL: All work must have the same idea and direction. To work with, so we often open society, to cultivate designers.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
WL: Project must, for the first time to find a topic, a deep understanding of pressed repeatedly, then present the answer in the design.
