Interview with Birgit Morgenstern at Tuesday 5th of April 2016 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? BM: After my school first I made a education but during the education I still wanted to be a designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? BM: In my design studio I designed the pattern for my workshop. all the products are producing in hand printing . For the different products are different patterns . I designed wallpaper, textiles, tablecloths, scarves, wrapping-paper and cushions. FS: What is "design" for you? BM: A good design in your environment gives you everyday a good and positive feeling. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? BM: wallpaper FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? BM: The wallpaper or better the wall decoration in hand printing gives rooms a special atmosphere from texture and hap tics. The irregularities gives at the rooms a charming aura. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? BM: The wallpaper, wall-design FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? BM: It is the material from the wallpaper, very fine fleecepaper , you d´not saw it on the wall, the paper, only the handprint stands on the wall. The paper goes into wall and you can see the structure on the wall. FS: When do you feel the most creative? BM: When is calming surrounding me FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? BM: I do not design on the computer, it is drawing, collage and photos on my self. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? BM: positvie feeling FS: What makes a design successful? BM: The selection of the patterns . FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? BM: To create pattern or design for a long time. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? BM: Individual design FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? BM: My last exhibition was in Paris last year on the "objet et Maison ", FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? BM: Structures and colors in my environment FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? BM: I draw or make photos It is my view of the design that comes on the different surfaces, for example wallpapers FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? BM: I grow up in the country with nature and animals. FS: How do you work with companies? BM: sometimes FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? BM: There are everyday things surrounding in my enviroment that can be interesting for example the structures that I found in the nature. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? BM: wallpaer, textiles,, opening ground plan, light and structures FS: Can you describe a day in your life? BM: In the morning I check my mails and make some phone calls than I check my works in my workshops and working in my screen printing workshop sometimes I do some calls on customers . FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? BM: to create a new charm without a negative feeling. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? BM: positive is you can do your passion and negative is a unsafely job FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? BM: Not to be adapt FS: What skills are most important for a designer? BM: A feeling for form and colors in combination FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? BM: I `m working with pens and a camera for to create my designs . FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? BM: 4 weeks FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? BM: Insperation FS: Who are some of your clients? BM: Isetan, Tokyo FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? BM: To try new patterns and this effect. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? BM: To work with other designers, or find a exclusive fair for my products . FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? BM: I develop my designs by myself.
