Interview with Jessie W. Fernandez at Tuesday 12th of December 2017 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? JWF: I had art and design training background in Hong Kong, then I did paintings during some years in Paris... I always feel that I belong to this field, I'm back and happy to become. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? JWF: Product packaging and Brand development FS: What is "design" for you? JWF: Point to realize... FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? JWF: Homeware FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? JWF: Hope that it is coming... FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? JWF: A company LOGO in HONG KONG FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? JWF: It depends on what I want to achieve FS: When do you feel the most creative? JWF: Anytime when I feel FREE FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? JWF: Maybe the details of the concept FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? JWF: Joyful and meaningful FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? JWF: Arousing satisfaction FS: What makes a design successful? JWF: Everything essential of its originality FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? JWF: Achieving its function with its best appeal FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? JWF: Bring out concepts to improve life and life style FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? JWF: Fulfil the future is the future of design FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? JWF: Hope that it will take place soon again after my last exhibition in Paris many many years ago FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? JWF: Always from one thing to another, then it jumps and comes up or comes back to be the others ... FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? JWF: searching and researching FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? JWF: drop down the footnotes and get back to the details whenever possible FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? JWF: It depends... it can begin to develop very fast but also very slow to finish FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
