FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
XC: 1993, product designer, BA, Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, ZHENGZHOU/CHINA. 2006, product designer, MA, Northumbria University, NEWCASTLE/UK.

FS: What is "design" for you?
XC: Design is my life.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
XC: Tableware design.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
XC: The challenge of design always make me feel more exciting.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
XC: I think as same as other designer.

FS: What makes a design successful?
XC: In-depth research.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
XC: Aesthetic.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
XC: Make your products live longer, don't be a earth killer.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
XC: I agree, in my opinion, the future of design is based on the thinking and rethinking of mankind's position. 

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
XC: In my opinion, the best style is without style, that mean design is not for style, design is for people, so it can be any styles.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
XC: Sketching and modeling.

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
XC: Make the timetable for each case. 

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
XC: In most simple cases, at least three months for me.

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
XC: I prefer tableware design, because it's much more easily to control the processing by myself.

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
XC: I am going to publish a personal design portfolio book, including personal perspective of design. 

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
XC: In most cases I am working as a team leader.
