Interview with Boattiverga Studio at Monday 14th of April 2014 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? BS: We study architecture and we always loved art and design FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? BS: boattiverga studio was founded in 2010 by Manuela Verga and Paolo Boatti after a collaboration with Marcio Kogan, a world-famous Brazilian architect. The hybridisation between restyled objects and new materials, the contamination of their traditional usage with a new, contemporary perspective, and clean, sharp shapes are the keystone of all boattiverga projects. FS: What is "design" for you? BS: Design is creativity, research and happiness but also practicality and functionality FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? BS: Everyday objects FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? BS: Mezzadro by Achille e Piergiacomo Castiglioni, inspirational leaders of the most authentic Italian design FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? BS: We never designed for a company FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? BS: Wood and glass FS: When do you feel the most creative? BS: In the summer time! FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? BS: Good proportions FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? BS: Happiness FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? BS: Good vibrations FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? BS: Aesthetics and functionality FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? BS: Recycling and reinterpretation are the key concepts that give birth to an exclusive design item FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? BS: Prostheses and Innesti presented at the London Design Festival 2012 at the Gallery Fumi in London and Porto Cervo. The next exhibition will be in autumn in New York. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? BS: We live in Italy and we are proud to be influenced by historical and modern beauty FS: How do you work with companies? BS: We never worked with companies, but we would like to star a collaboration. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? BS: Mezzadro by Achille e Giacomo Castiglioni, Plastic Chair by Charles and Ray Eames, Bowl Chair by Lina Bo Bardi, Falkland light by Bruno Munari, Tavolo con route by Gae Aulenti FS: What skills are most important for a designer? BS: Tenacity and immagination FS: What was your most important job experience? BS: Our international experiences, in Brasil and Palestine.
