Interview with Grégoire A. Meyer at Monday 8th of April 2013 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? GAM: I am largely self-taught but always had an interest in photography and digital art. FS: What is "design" for you? GAM: To realise something that is true, worthwhile and beautiful. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? GAM: 3D design. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? GAM: A book cover. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? GAM: Photography, digital art and video. FS: When do you feel the most creative? GAM: Difficult to answer but when I can see an end result to sight. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? GAM: The ability to touch people. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? GAM: I care about my work. When things are going well, I feel artistic freedom FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? GAM: Relief. FS: What makes a design successful? GAM: Vision, immediacy and ultimately its ability to touch people. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? GAM: Impact. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? GAM: "Electron Salon" at the Los Angeles Center of Digital Art. FEB 2013 / March 2013 FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? GAM: I try to keep up to date with all that is new and emerging be it online or at exhibitions. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? GAM: I grew up in France and began dancing professionally at the age of 16. I have lived all around the world and my experiences have inspired me in all aspects of my artistic journey. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? GAM: It is essential to never give up in what you believe in and it’s always important to challenge yourself, experiment and get out of your comfort zone. The artist’s life is not as simple as it may seem. Standing out from the crowd is not easy, which is why self-promotion is essential. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? GAM: To realise something that is true, worthwhile and beautiful. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? GAM: I enjoy the freedom of photography and recently I developed a fascination for digital art. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? GAM: To keep designing and pushing forward with new work. This also means mastering new technology. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? GAM: I work alone.
