Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Patricia Sheung Ying Wong (PSYW) for A’ Design Award and Competition. You can access the full profile of Patricia Sheung Ying Wong by clicking here.

Interview with Patricia Sheung Ying Wong at Saturday 16th of March 2013
Patricia Sheung Ying Wong
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
PSYW: My art/design life started with my early interest in drawing. I have been drawing and drawing non-stop since then. My reason for choosing the field of design was very simple: later on in my life, I discovered the fun of creating 3D objects and the beauty of taking something dull and transferring them into products that everyone loves. That was how I got into the field of design.

FS: What is "design" for you?
PSYW: My understanding of good design is a designer's honest respond of a question. It should allow audiences to reconsider their relationship with surrounding people and objects.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
PSYW: I like to design small to medium size items. I like to hold the prototype and feel their weights on my palm.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
PSYW: A modern looking candelabra.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
PSYW: Ceramic is extremely fun and allows a lot of possibilities.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
PSYW: At night, when it's quiet and serene.

FS: What makes a design successful?
PSYW: Knowing your users/clients and great flexibility.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
PSYW: To transfer dull and boring daily life into something surprising, attractive, and userful.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
PSYW: Trust your instinct. Go with your instinct. Improve your instinct.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
PSYW: The courage to admit your failure and keep moving.

FS: How can people contact you?
PSYW: Email: pwong@risd.edu

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
