Interview with Bhavin Manek at Monday 16th of April 2012 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? BM: I always appreciate all the beautiful things in life and what better way than Jewellery.I don't have an art or design background to my qualification it's just a passion that I follow.The beauty of the jewellery attracts and inspires become a unconventional designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? BM: J Manek Jewels is a retailer and manufacture of fine jewellery.It is more of a customized studio than a regular jewellery showroom.It understands the needs of it's clients and accordingly crafts elegant jewellery that suits one's requirement,style and personality. FS: What is "design" for you? BM: Design is Life and Happiness for me. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? BM: Anything that is unique and out the world concept. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? BM: Immortal is my first design. FS: When do you feel the most creative? BM: When sum-thing interesting catches my attention. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? BM: I focus on all aspects from ideas to designing to planning to executing and the last love-ability. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? BM: I feel its a part of my heart. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? BM: I go crazy,I jump and sing out in joy. FS: What makes a design successful? BM: Like-ability and Love-ability. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? BM: Uniqueness FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? BM: To respect all the people irrespective of any religion,caste and community and help in protecting and preserving mother earth. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? BM: No one can predict the future only Time will Tell. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? BM: I live in the land called India.It has one of the richest Culture and Heritage in the world and to study and understand it,it will take ages for me.India has produced many of the worlds greatest diamonds and jewellery is integral part of it since past 5,000-8000 years,hence my design will have a indian touch to it. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? BM: I have one most important suggestion for the companies"Give your designers time and space to complete their work,they are best when they can express themselves through their designs". FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? BM: "If you like it,people will love it". FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? BM: Designing is never time consuming,its time conserving. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? BM: Whats your inspiration behind the design? FS: What was your most important job experience? BM: Damas Jewellery-Dubai from 2007-20008.I experienced jewellery fantasy. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
