Abhishek Chitranshi
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
AC: Since my childhood I loved to create things which solve my need. Also, I used to sketch and paint lot. later, I decided to do the graduation in a field where I may continue my passion and learn new design processes and I found architecture best. In second year of my graduation I decided to explore the field of designs and polish my skills and I did master in design from IIT Bombay. I always wanted a profession where I can create and design.

FS: What is "design" for you?
AC: When a spider creates its web to live – its perfection is design. Design and Innovation are the faces of a coin. If innovation is need, then design covers all those aspects which keep enhancing the experience and the quality.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
AC: Nothing specific but love the screen interface (interaction) and product interface (industrial) in the field of technology, high-tech gadgets.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
AC: There are many. It’s difficult to point out one.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
AC: I had designed a building automation controller interface.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
AC: End User Need, Psychology, Usage , Behavior and Budget.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
AC: I feel like it’s my buddy. I care it and it will care all.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
AC: Thrilled

FS: What makes a design successful?
AC: Accessible when it is needed most, simple, natural, multifunctional and economical.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
AC: Notice/Sense each element that it is good or bad based on the need of its presence supporting design aspects like usage, simplicity, accessibility, aesthetic, affordability, ergonomics and intuitiveness.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
AC: Though everything happening around is somehow natural. The designer’s responsibility is to introduce unknown obviousness and keep setting the definition - what is natural.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
AC: It may sound philosophical but the 'Design' is evolving since earth/like anything on earth. I believe the 'Realization of Design' field is happening. The more realization is more attention towards future.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
AC: It was in IIT Bombay design degree show in 2006.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
AC: I live in Bangalore India. May be the awareness of design in India bit less if compare with countries like US, UK or Japan.

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
AC: Cell phone, nail cutter, water bottle, Tablet and clip on for my glasses.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
AC: Observe each possible element and keep simplicity

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
AC: Listener, Observer
