DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Roxano

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Floor Lamp

INSPIRATION:
The primarily inspiration was to bring the building materials into the interior and create an utility object that would look aesthetically unconventional. All details are based on original ideas and are made to reflect the craft skills of the designer.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Roxano combines richly textured materials into a slight subtle form. On one side, raw building materials like concrete and roxor, and on the other side soft, translucent, industrial fabric. Materials are hand crafted in contemporary design. There is translucent compressed fabric in various colours instead of the usual lampshade for the light. The industrial fabric can be arranged in different ways. A perforated metal ring and fabric diffuses the LED light in a unique way.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The Roxano is more interactive than a standard floor lamp. There are many ways to arrange the industrial fabric individually, by mood.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in May 2018 and finished in November 2019 in Sliac.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The base is a raw concrete casting. Carrier profile is a hollow imitation of roxor. The carrier of lampshade is welded from steel profiles. The electric cable with 12V LED light passes through the base and roxor imitation. The lampshade is made of perforated sheet metal.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Length 200 x Width 200 x Height 1700 mm. Base made of cast concrete, rod made of steel and epoxy resin, lampshade made of industrial fabric.

TAGS:
Light, concrete, fabric, Floor lamp, roxor, LED,

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
It is well known that we judge subjects by our previous experience. I assumed that object would make the spectators unsure and it would stir some questioning. How is it possible for the lamp to shine when any cable or electric wire cannot be seen and the steel roxor is not a hollow profile? The dilemma was even bigger with those spectators with some previous practical experience with constructional materials. The observation of the spectators only confirmed that our senses are deceiving and that they prevent us from revealing the hidden nature of things.

CHALLENGE:
The usual floor lamp compositions consists of a base, carrier profile, light source, lampshade, and power supply connection. The greatest design challenge was to make a hollow casting of roxor. The Roxano used a surprising solution. In the construction it replaced the hollow carrier profile with the imitation of roxor. "Roxor" took over the function of carrier profile - to ability to lead the electric power cable in its body.
