| DESIGN NAME: Form a Light Poem PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential INSPIRATION: Family lifestyle change due to the child growth is the origin of the transformation of this case. So the designer has escaped the compartmentalization of Taiwanese residential standards and added public spaces and designs that allow family members to interact and interact closely. In terms of aesthetics, inspired by patchwork hobby of the client, simplified classical lines and geometric totems, the designer creates an elegant and casual home atmosphere. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is an old house where the client has lived for 15 years. Through the design renovation, the designer has planned the overall layout to be more suitable for the present and future living conditions of the client. Especially the library on the fourth floor, after the introduction of a large piece of natural skylight inside the house through a glass sunroof, it has become a favorite space for family members. Warming up and uniting the family. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Due to the narrow and long pattern of the main window at the front and rear ends, plus more structural beams and columns, lead to the overall living relatively closed and oppressed. Therefore, public domains at the first and fourth floor adopt the open plan as the main axis and use the beam and column extension in the space to design the storage cabinet. In addition to the demand of living functions, it also creates a light and graceful transparent feeling. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in December, 2018 in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Wood Tile, Ebony Black Marble, Solid Wooden Sheet SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The entire room design includes the basement until the fourth floor. Each floor area is around 66 square meters. The layout configuration includes working studio, living room, dining room, kitchen, library, along with four bedrooms and five bathrooms. TAGS: Old House Renovation, Roof Skylight, Casual Style, Residential Design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Apart from renovation to bringing a more comfortable and convenient life for the family, connecting the emotion between the clients and the family is also a topic to concern about. Therefore, the focus is to create the flow and penetration of space. Because surrounding buildings are relatively low, it is unobstructed after climb to the top floor. With the wide open skyline view, but the project is like many traditional Taiwanese residence, the top fifth floor space was only used to place the water tower. Thanks to the design of the glass hood and the steel hollow staircase, the idle top floor has been revitalized since then. CHALLENGE: Due to the connection bellow the hollow staircase at the top of the fourth and fifth floors, the functions of the desk and minibar must be planned. Therefore, it took the designer a lot of time to deal with the drainage problem in this area. Moreover, the staircase completely relied on the steel frame at both ends to support the weight.
