PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: France, with the popular impression of its elegance, romanticism, and comfort in living, all of which culminated in an enriched cultural content and aura, has become a subject of nostalgia for the client who worked and refined living experience in Paris. Those added to his fascination with 18th Century oriental elements; therefore, the design team was tasked to satisfy the nostalgia of the client in imbuing the classic residence in Taipei with quality and essence of French-style living.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project was anchored on the theme of a French word, Chinoiserie, with an extension of the 18th Century French palatial view fusing the oriental elements in crafting a new classical residence. The team aimed to consolidate the overall cultural content of the interior with upholstery decorations and customized French-styled furniture as the essence of French culture and oriental symbolism were fused into the design in the creation of a refined, elegant and warm residential environment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As this project was started with the unfinished concrete interior, the design team, apart from discussing with the client over the overall interior style, also tirelessly communicated with the developer in modifying the original development design by adjusting window location and dimensions, as recommended by the design team.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was completed in 2018, in Taipei City, Taiwan.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This project is of an internal area of 130 square meters with a layout of the entrance, living room, dining room, kitchen, study, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In order to create an enriched way of living, the design team adopted customized antiquated and detailing-rich upholstery infusion with visual arts, display culture, and elegant living in creating such look and feel of the new classicism. In terms of circulation, as the lighting coming through the living room penetrates through the front and back, and demarcates the interior domains, so visually, the classic furniture, oriental decoration, and antiquated-look items, etc., guided this aesthetic taste of elegance and humility.
CHALLENGE: While the elongated layout accentuates the importance of spatial utilization in minimizing odd corners and residual spaces so as to increase the flowing nature of the overall circulation, as well as finding the suitable ceiling height in concealing all servicing piping and wiring in the name of expanding the overall visual effect, all of which have certainly become the working challenge of this project. In terms of detailing, from handling the logistics of imported materials, the treatment of floor and wall, as well as the usage of decorative items, all the aforementioned tasks tested the wisdom and capabilities of the design team.
