DESIGN NAME:
Mix Townhouse

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residence

INSPIRATION:
With the exterior and interior are both of country-style, each family member has his or her individual spatial needs ranging from country style, Japanese style, and Loft Industrial style, the eventual design was inspired by the essence of each of the sought-after styles before combining and creating a new articulation of styles.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
As opposed to the conventional design strategy of one style for one space, the styling needs of each family member of the client were addressed with eclectic design consideration.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
As medium space between each level such as stair, and corridor, etc., is imbued with styling transition in materials and lighting, the independent living room features entrance glass partition and TV wall, and third-floor barn door expressing the Industrial Styling with genuine timber color and functional storage under the stairs.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project was completed in 2019, in Taoyuan City, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
With the limitation posed by the country-styled patterned kitchen cabinets, while amalgamating the classic residential style, and the need for a worship room, the design features a worship cabinet of symmetrical design with materials that avoid being smoked, as well as a ventilation device, and hidden drawers.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
With the original interior area of 281 square meters, the new split-level added 17 square meters in area, the technical challenge of this project was the skylight window of the staircase at the height of 5 meters which required scaffolding, as the room under the pitched roof required precise dimension calculation for optimal comfort and ergonomics design with suspended floor layer with structural support on the ceiling which benefited functional use of space.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
As the design team has brought a newer design conception for this project that eclectic styling is possible at one residence, the design has proven to be successful in satisfying the needs of all family members while creating a breakthrough design tone and manner that realizes the family dream.

CHALLENGE:
As the son of the client offered his ideal design style of Japanese residence styling, and the resultant discussion led to the finished concrete styling that was featured in the industrial-styled room of his elder sister, and this became a key unifying feature for all three floors, while grey tatami mat complemented with green-tea color wallpaper indeed realized the visual ideal for the son of the client.
