| DESIGN NAME: Art of Simplicity PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Apartment INSPIRATION: Taking the advantage of the project location, where it is surrounded by mountains the client couple hopes to admire the splendid landscape view outside the windows of the apartment every day. Therefore, the designer is asked to utilize this advantage bring in fashionable simplicity and low profile luxurious style to create a comfortable residential space for a family of four, as well as taking into account the daily needs of the couple and their two young children. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design uses clean cut lines, open layout of public spaces and utilizes moveable partitions to separate public and private area. It has combined elegant and modern trends with simplicity. The essence of oriental courtyard design is applied, enframing outdoor landscape into a huge painting of mountains, enlightens the space. The continuity of cut lines has extended the visual sense, the frames are used as transition to the spaces, matches with mirror materials creating a sense of infinity. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Simple clean cut lines divide and form the minimalist space, combining both aesthetics and functionality. French windows with hidden storage, frame the mountain scenery into a giant painting. The low ceiling is modified with curved edges and mirror material, covering the beams and columns, embedded with LED strips, maintaining the height of ceiling and reducing the sense of pressure, creating a chic design style. Customized flexible changeable furniture is used to create an elegant residence. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2018 and completed in July 2018 in New Taipei City, Taiwan. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The building materials include mirror, glass, wood veneer, leather, metal parts, stainless steel, LED lightings, wooden boards and modern tiles. LED strip is used for cove lighting to brighten up the living and dining area. Large French windows, framed with black wooden material and provides hidden storage function, bring in the distant mountain landscape scenery. Many furniture items like round sofa are made of waste materials which include leather and wood. Thin stainless steel and iron parts are used as decoration on full height cabinets. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The area of the housing unit is 332 square meter which is built of RC structures. The interior layout consists of an open living, dining and kitchen area, a study room, a master bedroom, a kids bedroom, a guest bedroom, outdoor balcony area and storage room. The guest bedroom adopting sliding door design. TAGS: Modern, simplicity, enframement, mountains, open layout, sophisticated RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The clean cut lines merge with mass volumes in right scale create the core design. The reading area, built of the scale of kids, serves multifunctions with details, with flexible furniture and bright color tone, leading into liveliness. The continuity of lines forms the extension of sight. Frames are used as spatial transition, create a sense of infinity with mirror materials. Despite an open layout, each functional space has its own strong sense of significance. CHALLENGE: The original floor height is only 2.7 m, in order to reduce the sense of pressure, the designer has to make the right decision in materials and designs. The balcony where one can enjoy the outdoor scenery and breezes is designed and added into the layout. It is also a big challenge for the team to realize the construction of the church roof outlines for the large window with glasses and metal frames. All of these are solved successfully by the professional design team.
