| DESIGN NAME: Winding Stream PRIMARY FUNCTION: Console Table INSPIRATION: The original idea was about metamorphosis (form-changing) of a table. Can a table be really long and thin and not follow the normal geometric form? Can a table feel sensual and soft at the same time? The result is inspired by an ancient Chinese custom called the Winding Stream. Guests wait by a winding stream and compose poems before their cups full of wine float down to reach them. The form of this "dry stream" table is hoped to convey a sense of age and cultural delicacy. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Winding Stream is a series of irregularly and delicately curved wooden tables inspired by an appreciation of a historic custom. The look and material are chosen with an attitude towards tradition, time, and aging. The form challenges the convention of what a table should be like. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The table can be custom made in different specific shapes and sizes. It can suit both public spaces and private homes. Invites users to engage with it creatively: put a cup of drink, decorate with plants, hang things, separate rooms, etc. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2019 and finished in May 2019 in New York. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Solid wood (oak or walnut) with oiled finish. Table legs bleached at lower part. Table top as one single piece of wood or a glue-laminated piece bent following the curve of the shape (with very thin striation depending on the sharpness of the curve). SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 3120 x 630 x 830 mm TAGS: table, console, curved table, irregular shape, bleached wood, curved wood, tradition RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Irregularly and delicately curved wooden table inspired by a historic custom. Challenges the conventional form and impression of a table. Aimed to elegantly evoke a sense of cultural tradition, time, and aging.
