| DESIGN NAME: MOMO PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp INSPIRATION: Mohou, known as a kind of little monkey recorded in ancient Chinese stories. It lived on the desk, accompanying its owner, and was deeply loved by the literati. So many people are overusing phones, some even can not walk away from phones. However, pets can attract the attention of owners, helping them to put down phones, reducing their stresses, and bringing them a great sense of happiness. But there are many people who can not keep pets, so it’s Momo’s showtime. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We want to let the lamp remind people to put down their mobile phones in an emotional way. In this design, the phone is like the treasure of Momo, when you take it away, Momo will be unhappy. This lamp allows users to feel that they are accompanied, meanwhile, make people feel fun and warm. The gravity of the phone and the force of the spring are the power that drives the change of Momo's expressions. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Tap the top to turn it on. Slide your fingers on the top to adjust brightness. Put the phone on the base, and the expression will change. These movements can make the users feel that they are playing with pets. It will let the users have positive emotions, which make a difference to ordinary lamps. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The materials used are wood and aluminum. The wood will be cut and turned, and the aluminum will be stamped and bent. Then, they will be assembled with springs, bulbs, lampshades and other components. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 100mm x 100mm x 300mm TAGS: lamp, put down your phone, FOMO, expression change, emotional design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Nowadays, many people are addicted to mobile phones, some heavy users may become anxiety. We found that pets can help their owners to fix these problems. So, we decided to design a product which can help people just like a pet. This product should have positive feedback, and it should have association with scenes that we can not use phones. Later, we found a cute creature called Mohou, it became an element of our design. CHALLENGE: Find an interesting way to show the feedback, and make it done by using the simplest mechanical structure.
