| DESIGN NAME: Bamboo Slip PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rollable Keyboard INSPIRATION: My daily job inspired me to come up with this project. I often travel with the keyboard I'm used to, so I need a portable keyboard. My inspiration comes from Chinese bamboo slips. This is a tool used to write characters in ancient China. The way it curls up can fulfill my needs. I want to reproduce Chinese classical elements in modern life. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a wooden keyboard that can be rolled up. The unique about this design is that it can folds. When used, roll Bamboo Slip into a 6cm diameter like a wooden stick. This size makes it easy to fit into your bag, and you can even hold the bamboo slip in your hand. It can save many spaces compared to a regular keyboard. Besides, material also makes it different. It is a wooden keyboard. Wood can make this keyboard look more like traditional Chinese bamboo slips. Bamboo Slip can make traditional tools form a new inheritance in modern life. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When using, spread Bamboo Slip into a keyboard, through the top of the USB plug into the computer for typing. When moving, roll the Bamboo Slip into a stick. This form greatly reduces the storage volume of Bamboo Slip. You can put it in your bag or carry it wherever you want to go. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2019 in China and finished in May 2019 in that place, and was exhibited in China in June 2019. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The shell material of Bamboo Slip is made of light teak, and the connection of Bamboo Slip is made of rubber. The internal circuit of the keyboard is wrapped with rubber to ensure that bamboo slip will not fall apart when it is bent and spread out. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 350mm x 115mm x 53mm TAGS: Portable, Keyboard, Traditional, Hybrid, Wood, Teak, Roll, Space, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Bamboo Slip is divided into six parts, each of which corresponds to the horizontal keys of the keyboard. The internal circuit is put in the bending position and made of PCV material. According to research, many professions such as designers often need to carry keyboards, but traditional keyboards are not convenient to carry. So there is a great market demand for a portable keyboard that can be stored. The material and semantic associations of bamboo also give the portable keyboard a more distinctive character. CHALLENGE: The challenge for this keyboard was its material selection and circuit design, we used a lot of wood to investigate, and finally chose teak. Teak is a good waterproof wood, often used in lamps.
