| DESIGN NAME: Sun PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pendant INSPIRATION: The feather brooch given to upcycle was made of airy gold threads. These threads inspired me to make each of them to single eyelets. All the eyelets were soldered to each other in a circular shape. The airy construction got a solid bowl shaped mounting at its basis. Because of the radiant assembly of the eyelets and the warm yellow gold color of the pendant, I called it Sun. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Sun is a pendant made from a 750 yellow gold feather brooch. Sun is the result of a task of the upcycling documentary series "Hallo Schatz" in German TV. The brooch was delivered and should become a complete new, modern and entirely different price of jewelry. Important was to use only what was given. So the feather brooch became the Sun pendant. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Sun was made during a film crew accompanied my work. This was very special to me. I had to make sure that I can repeat every step of the manufacturing so that it could be filmed from another perspective as well. Furthermore I had to explain what I was doing while doing it. It took a lot of time to work in that manner, but I had a lot of fun! PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The pendant Sun was built in November 2018 in Langen, near Frankfurt/Main Germany and sold in February 2019 in Burg Adendorf, Germany. The TV series will be shown in March and April 2019. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Usually flawless wires are used to make eyelets. But in this task, the wire had to come from the brooch and this fact gave a very special appearance to the eyelets. They are more vivid. From these special eyelets emerged a vigorous but clear radiant structure. To give this structure maximum of attention I brought it to a calm and consistent basis. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Specifications: upcycling 750 yellow-gold from a feather brooch Dimensions: approx. diameter 60mm and 20mm high TAGS: sun, feather, upcyclig, jewelry, gold, pendant, brooch , goldsmith, handmade, TV RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Upcycling means to transform an old thing in a new and better thing. Better in terms of jewelry means more modern and/or easier to wear. In the best case there is no material to leave off or to add. In my opinion it is a special worth for the new price, if there is a memento of the thing it came from. In the case of Sun it is the structure of the thread of the eyelets. CHALLENGE: The original material of the feather broochs gold threads were soldered together. It was a lot of difficile work to separate them one by one by hand. The second challenge was to solder the flat eyelet structure to the bowl-shaped basis without all the eyelets falling apart.
