DESIGN NAME: Fresh Pepper
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pattern for Kitchen Fabric
INSPIRATION: The idea of creating this pattern appeared once in the summer on a holiday in Bulgaria. It was a wonderful sunny day. I cut peppers for salad. I was inspired by the beautiful shapes of these vegetables and charged with energy and positive. On the table on which I was cooking, there was a tablecloth with pictures of cakes depicted on it. This created a dissonance. I thought about the effects of the drawings that surround us. Among the drawings used for kitchen textiles, there are often cakes, pies, cookies, etc. It may induce a person to eat too many sweets. I decided to create a design that supported the trend for a healthy lifestyle, encouraging people to eat right. In the process of drawing I tried to convey a sense of juiciness and flavor of fresh vegetables.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Pattern with whole and sliced vivid colours peppers. Vegetables are drawn in a digital way (vector graphics).
The pattern looks whole, bright and unusual. Suitable for kitchen textile. It is designed to improve mood, to create an appetite, to call for a healthy diet and to encourage the consumer to a healthy lifestyle.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design is digitally printed on a twill fabric. Suitable for tablecloths, paths on the table, kitchen towels, curtains, aprons, oven mitts, pillows. The size of the pattern on the fabric may be different depending on the object on which it is applied.
For kitchen towels, it is better to choose a less dense material –
cotton.
Kitchen textiles with this pattern will look good in modern neutral interiors and loft interiors. The fabric blends well with the texture of natural wood.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In the process of creating a pattern, I turned to the history of graphics. I was inspired by engraving, book illustration, botanical illustration. A great help for me was Carol Belanger Grafton's book "Botanical Illustration. Motifs and Ideas". It contains illustrations of plants from different times.
Another task was the choice of fabric for printing. I wanted to create an easy-to-use set of kitchen textiles, so that it does not require ironing too often.
Samples were printed on different textile bases including: twill, cotton, linen and polyester. Twill and cotton were the most suitable for this purpose.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to create a bright and eye-catching pattern that would cause an association with a healthy lifestyle, naturalness, environmental friendliness.
The hardest part of the design process was was to achieve a visual expression of the drawing.
