DESIGN NAME: Foshan Meisha Experimental School
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Education Architecture
INSPIRATION: Inspiring by Chinese traditional academy and absorbing the essence of Chinese landscape design, the campus, which takes courtyard as prototype, has flexible layout and rich layers. "Dynamic Core"-an open style teaching space, connects the whole campus like a neural center and activates vitality of the whole school. With rich layers and multiple yards, and its architecture blends into the landscape, the campus is no longer a depressing boarding school but an enjoyable teaching and learning home.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Learning community: combining different yards to create a multi-themed cluster learning community.
Sharing & Connection: by managing layout of resource-sharing-centers to create an interactive teaching space .
Blending of emotion & scenery: using double "1 floors" and multiple platforms to create a multi-layered interactive teaching space.
Low-tech and energy saving: using low-tech strategy of Lingnan architecture, bringing in natural ventilation and lighting through using alley and patios.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project superposes different functional spaces like teaching, living, resting, playing spaces, turning the simple simple teaching place into a learning community with multiple experiences.
"Sharing Corridor" and "Dynamic Core" serve as connector which connects teaching units, visiting space, sports facilities, green landscaping, etc..
The architecture integrates with the landscape and the design adapts to climates, geographical environment and traditions of Foshan.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Mar 2018 in Foshan, China

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The project takes reference of passive energy saving measures of traditional Lingnan garden in its planning, building design and construction details. Through elaborated space organizing, a spatial system resembles traditional Lingnan courtyard , in where alley, courtyard, open hall, courtyards, etc are used, is built. Said system applies wind and thermal pressure ventilation, connects ordinary campus components into a scientific ventilation system and thus achieves the goal of energy saving.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Both outer wall and roof adopts Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete. The material not only satisfies requirement of fast constructing , but also provides good heat insulating, which fulfills goal of energy saving . The project uses pre-fabricated inner and outer wallboards in some specific area, which reduces the structural weight and increases construction efficiency and shock resistance. In long-span area of the art building, pre-stressed reinforced concrete with strong tensile strength is used.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: 1.Investigating defects of the existing construction and learn about the real need of teachers, students and parents .
2.Sorting out and analyzing the campus functions from the using time and activity modes of the users.
3.Studying the site current conditions and proposing optimal planning strategies.
4.Comparing multiple 3-D models and polishing a best layout solution.
CHALLENGE: The design adapts to climates, geographical environment and traditions of Foshan, draws the essence of Lingnan construction design strategies that based on climate adaptability, including the using of alley which emphases natural ventilation, facade which insulates sunlight and heat , rain- and-moisture-proof material, etc. to reduce energy consumption and achieve the goal of environment protection.
