| DESIGN NAME: Expressive Art PRIMARY FUNCTION: Footwear INSPIRATION: The inspiration for this design collection comes from showing the progress of how expressive art therapy (creativity art therapy) can evolve through the stages of artistic development. The designer intends to discover how to treat accessories as media showing the spiritual artistic development stages. The color flow in show heels representing people's electroencephalogram in mind. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The collection focus on discovering the relationship between accessories pieces and art curing process which can help and affect people’s feelings in various ways. The color flow in heels represents people's spirit, while different color and color turbidity and depth showing different individual's emotion and characteristics. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The selection of unique, leather materials and the individual customization of the heel represents an abstract stream of consciousness and people's individual spirit. Different leather surface treatments and the color’s flow in the outsole represent various human soul. Each work in the collection also represents an individual stage in artistic development. The works, through their form and color, parallel a progression through the developmental stages of art. The lighter color means the person is in a more positive condition. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project took two months for design and finish. It has been exhibited in Savannah, Georgia, United States. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Crazy Horse Leather, Pull-up leather, Elastic, Rubber Sole, Acrylic, Footwear, Shoe, Custom heels SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The High heel is in women US size 6. And the other two shoes are in men's US 9. TAGS: Footwear, Heels, Expressive Art, Art, Cure, Healing, Acrylic, Elastic, Mental Health, Emotion RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research shows the change in people’s emotion, action, and psychology from the time people joined the art remedy program, the period of their healing process, and the effect after they cured. The research contains a lot of information about the different characteristic and behavior of four stages. People who are suffering diseases, mental problems, physical, emotional problems, and disorder has different action to express their feeling. Study of recognizing different stage and feature is also helpful in design each specific stage. Meanwhile, the designer also did research for art therapy which includes drawing therapy, music therapy, dance therapy, expressive art therapy and many types of art therapy methods to define the meaning of expressive art treatment. Researching and discovering the relationship between accessory pieces and expressive art to demonstrate how accessory pieces will affect human’s emotions and experience health as a way and media of expressive art healing method. CHALLENGE: The most challenge part of the collection is to create a custom shoe heels by modeling, casting and making. Since it’s all handmade, the casting and sanding take a long-term in developing. The other big challenge is from leather. Since the leather is crazy horse leather, it’s very thick especially for footwear treatment and needs to be taken good care for it is with great texture and a special surface which marks left easily. NAME: Serena Zhang PROFILE: The designer believes that all designs should come from real life and is able to explore the small details that should stand ready to be the source of the inspirational elements of our design. With the recognization of her true calling in accessory design, the goal of bringing in special, eye-catch design for accessories as the discipline combines fashion, function, and creativity. Designer's project is focusing on the deep exploration of the soul's needs for the human being, which is also an important expression of the author's concern for people mental health in a positive way. |
