| DESIGN NAME: Day and Night PRIMARY FUNCTION: It is a bench INSPIRATION: Most of us have beautiful moments with benches and a lot of friendships have started on benches at the seaside. This design was inspired by stars and waves. There is a need for a new bench design that is compatible with the beauty of the environment that will reflect our dreams on the sea side during day and night. The day view of the bench is shown in the first image. The night view of the bench is shown in the second image. The light produced by light emitting concrete is demonstrated in the second image. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This bench is designed to complement the sea and the stars. The bench form is reminiscent of waves. Thanks to light-emitting concrete, the light is appearing on the bench after sunset and evokes the stars at night time. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After walking or jogging on the beach, people want to relax and enjoy the panorama. The design is compatible with the landscape. This bench design emits light reminiscent of stars at night and attracts the attention of users. This design is resistant to rain and cold and suitable for use by two people. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: At the end of the research I made a sketch about the form. I also researched a sustainable and aesthetic material. Then I modeled my design. The project started in October 2018 and finished in February 2019 in Antalya, Turkey. It will exhibited in 2020 in Antalya. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This bench will be made from light-emitting concrete. Light-emitting concrete traps solar energy during the daytime and converts it into light in the night. Which means this concrete emits the light at night time without using electricity. Light-emitting concrete is environmentally friendly and non-toxic for human health. Concrete is strong and among the most durable materials against moisture. This bench is made from durable, recyclable and strong material to resist the humid conditions of the sea and last longer. Waste is used as an aggregate in the concrete. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Images of the bench design demonstrate the dimensions and the view at day and night time. The dimensions: 1800 mm x 700 mm x 800 mm. It can be produced where it will be used or can be manufactured at the factory. The design is heavy as well as strong. Care should be taken when moving. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Most of us have a dream of sitting on a bench by the sea under the moonlight and the stars. In this project, the resting needs of people who are walking and jogging by the sea were investigated. A questionnaire was applied to a sample of users for research. According to the results of the survey, there was an expectation of a bench design which has a wave-like form and is resistant to external factors. Light-emitting concrete technology and wave-like form have been added to the design which is aimed to attract the attention of users at night. CHALLENGE: There were two main challenges: to design a long-lasting bench to decorate our memories, and to make a design that attracts users both day and night.
