PRIMARY FUNCTION: Dining Table
INSPIRATION: Directly inspired by the nature in central part of Iran, Yazd. Yazd, surrounded by two deserts, with its magnificent architecture, is a city of sand and clay. Yazd is also known for its fire temples, a holy place for Zoroastrian religion. Sand and fire elements were incorporated to create "Masse".
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a blend of modern and traditional components that form a unique functional table that could be customized in wide range of lighting intensities.
Four illuminated legs with distinct patterns filled from sand and glass make this simple table an art piece with a remarkable appearance.
This design allows the room to have informal yet elegant ambiance.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: There is a rectangular frame connecting 4 legs together made out of thick plexiglass. Each leg is screwed to the frame and the wires run through the frame. There is a small magnetic electrical connector for each leg to close the circuit. Main power cord enters from the bottom of one of the legs that supplies the power for all legs. Finally the top glass sits on the frame and its ready to be used.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 5 weeks in Tehran.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Legs are made from two inner and outer Plexiglass square profiles. There a tiny opening gap between the profiles providing the space to be filled with layers of desert sand and micro Crystal glass balls. Inside the inner profile, there are 4 LED stripes mounted on an Aluminum profile, illuminating the structure from inside. This is a unique mix of materials that can be designed in variety of patterns. The glass transfers the light and could be used with different light colors. This sand and glass pattern has its natural look and beauty even without illumination.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 146cm x 86cm x 10mm sekurit glass on top. 73cm table Height. 12 cm leg width.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: My challenge was how to incorporate Persian architecture into the modern Western design. I started by using hay and clay texture lighted up from above and below for the table legs. The texture was beautiful from close distance but as you go further back, the visual appearance of the texture fades out.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was to make the table easily portable and make the assembly seamless for any individual.
