| DESIGN NAME: EXPRESSION PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bag INSPIRATION: The inspiration for this design collection comes from showing the progress of how expressive art therapy (creativity art therapy) can evolve through the stages of artistic development and what role do accessories pieces play in the process of art therapy. Those bags can easily leave marks during people's used by its special surface. Designer regards each piece as a piece of plain paper. Each piece is considered as an art work by artist development stage which varies. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design piece is meant to appeal to people's attention on mental health and the group of people who are suffering from mental illness. As an accessory designer, the author believes accessories can enhance the meaning of accessories in human civilization, no longer just as an ornament; they can reflect people's expression of emotions. Different characters, emotion, living background and a lot of elements can effect on a person's tastes of choosing their personal accessories. Accessories are not only as decorations but also a representing way of a human soul. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The special leather which easily leaves a mark by scratching, burning or rubbing which shows the progress of art therapy. The special handmade custom made acrylic bag handle, the color’s flow in the outsole represent various stages of human artistic development. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project took two months for design and finish. It has been exhibited in Savannah, Georgia, USA at Savannah College of Art and Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The designer chooses the special leather which can easily leave marks by scratches, rubbing or heating it. By different ways and amount of scratches and darkness after the treatment, those represent different expressive art therapy stages and also showing people's emotion changes and regard it as a curing record. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 3* 4*6.5 inches, 5*10*15 inches, 20*25*40 inches TAGS: Bag, Handbag, Design, Custom Handle, Handle, Tube, Layer, Leather, Treatment RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research is base on how art therapy can be processed and showed by accessories pieces. Expressive art therapy is divided into four stages which are the scribble stage, pre-schematic stage, schematic stage, and realism stage. The study presents people’s emotional status by accessories pieces beginning with their sick, unhealthy, and negative emotions, and gently turn into better, more active, and healthier moods. The variation of outcomes and color changes in the accessories pieces connote the changing period of people’s mind and attitudes by expressive art therapy. People's choosing for accessories also affected by their emotion and spiritual changes. CHALLENGE: The bag handle is custom made by 3D modeling then resin casting techniques. The designer did a lot of research and experiment on casting to get the right color flow as she likes the best. In addition, though the bag structure looks easy, the leather is very thick which is about 3mm and hard to handle. The designer did a lot of hand sewing techniques and treatment on the leather to make the shape realizable. NAME: Jingwen Zhang PROFILE: The designer believes that all designs should come from real life and is able to explore the small details that should stand ready to be the source of the inspirational elements of our design. With the recognization of her true calling in accessory design, the goal of bringing in special, eye-catch design for accessories as the discipline combines fashion, function, and creativity. Designer's project is focusing on the deep exploration of the soul's needs for the human being, which is also an important expression of the author's concern for people mental health in a positive way. |
