RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The design combines Calligraphy-like touches for the east and gold etching-like for the west. Originating in Europe, etching was critical to the dissemination of knowledge during the Renaissance and Enlightenment. In contrast, Chinese recognize that painting is inseparable from calligraphy and they have the same origin. Therefore, etching and calligraphy are two of the most representative elements in Chinese and western cultures, using which allows the work to show a vast intercultural scope. We have done a huge research of art history to choose a typical figure. The work uses 8 figures to show cultural dialogue, which both from famous master piece including "Night-Shining White" from Tang dynasty/ British "Whistle jacket" by George Stubbs, “Lonely bird” by Bada Shanren/Dove as Jesus and Peace, Buddha's hand/Salvator Mundi, Guanyin’s eye/ David’s eyes."Night-Shining White"is the horse of emperor Xuanzong from tang dynasty, which is aesthetic implicit without tail. Among them, the "Night-Shining White" from Tang dynasty and “Lonely bird” by Bada Shanren are two figures with the most unique cultural context in China. Horse represents spirituality, wisdom and the step into the door of art education. The steed "Night-Shining White" is the favorite horse of emperor Xuanzong of tang dynasty in China, which contains a strong historical and cultural value as a classical imagery. Expressing the Oriental art’s unique aesthetic breath and pursuit, "Night-Shining White" is not only vigorous but also has a kind of implicit feeling. And another interesting detail is that it has no tails. On the other hand, bird represents human beings' spirit and freedom, which is exactly pursued by aesthetic education. “Lonely bird” by Bada Shanren shows a black bird being alone and rolling its eyes. Those posture and manner of the black bird represent the rebellious spirit of literati, containing the indifference and stubbornness. Everyone looks at it will be touched. Considering that scope is a brand engaged in intercultural aesthetic education, the visual design stems from the perspective of education with profound connotations and cultural significances, rather than just a simple figure.

CHALLENGE:
The two challenge of this design is how to choose the figure? and how to connect the two contrast figure into one structure. Overlap is the final answer that we present. we uses overlapping methods to extract image elements, rather than some common or simple methods like cutting the image or separated them in a half. The implementation of overlapping with silk-screen and emboss is quite challenging and brave. Only with the method on the special hand-made paper presents the work a unique and art-work like touching. it won't show a speciality if we do it on an ordinary paper.
