| DESIGN NAME: Yii Soul PRIMARY FUNCTION: Handbag and Pouch INSPIRATION: Yii Soul pronounced in Mandarin, it means the traditional little blessing pouch which is a very popular little charm gift item among Asia countries especially in Taiwan & Japan. We developed an innovative weaving method by digitizing the colorful illustration images and apply to the woven label machine to weave into the fabric surface directly, creating new way to design product with this delicate fabric. Instead of the original purpose of the woven label machine meant for label weaving as textile material, a series of colorful and thematic illustration fashionable bags and pouches designed as its first debut, changing the eco-system of the woven label industry. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: These series of blessing handbag, document carrier and little pouch were made up by innovative weaving technology namely Precision Weaving Technique, a series of colorful and thematic illustrations were digitized and merged with woven label machine, using 8 different colors of finest thread jacquard into 3 level gradation that make up to 24 colors combination, to weave out the delicate image fabric with fine touch and stereographic surface that later sew into a series of beautiful handbag. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Changing the way of making a handbag or pouch, the graphic or image on the fabric were weaved by label loom machine which was not the original purpose for the machine, it gives greater possibilities to creativity. One can touch and feel the images in stereographically. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design project started in January 2013, funded by Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs and finished in July 2013 in Tainan, Taiwan, first appearence in Taiwan International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo April 2014 and Tainan Fashiion show in 2014, won a silver award in Cross-Strait Industrial Design Award, Xiamen China in November 2015. |

The team managed to develop a new method namely Precision Weaving Technique by digitizing the colorful illustration images and apply to the woven label machine to weave into the fabric surface directly. Instead of the original purpose of the woven label machine meant for label weaving as textile material, a series of colorful and thematic illustration incorporated with fashionable bags and pouches designed, that managed to transform and upgrade a local woven label factory. CHALLENGE: Precision Weaving Technique is an innovative method that had shifted the paradigm of the woven label industry. In order to transform the label loom machine from its original purpose, we tried to digitize and pixelate colorful drawing and fit into the loom machine program, the process is time consuming and painstaking. After months of try and error, the team manage to produce a long piece of beautiful fine touch fabric with thematic illustration.
