DESIGN NAME: Lampopcorn
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lighting Artwork
INSPIRATION: Glass, between art and design: from its concept to its crystallization, through the study of materials, techniques, and technologies of glass production. Lampopcorn is unique thanks to the descriptive power of freehand blown glass and the natural light existence that is the representation of popcorn. Art brings to life, a fantastical association with food and stimulates the creation of this modern representation.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Lampopcorn is its own matrix. It can be placed wherever the user wants, on a table, on the floor, on a shelf. It can work alone or together with other lamps. It can work indoor or outdoor. each lamp is a unique piece because it is handmade in Murano, the famous island of Venice, the home of glass art.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The peculiar characteristics of this product are linked to the icon of popcorn. It basically means that it can do without a stand or particular arrangement because popcorn doesn't need that: being well-placed means being messy. That's why this light can be on the floor or on a table, preferably in a group but alone can do as well, even on top of its clones or it can be arranged to create a true work of contemporary art.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Finished in May 2018 in Venice.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The outer shell of the product is in polychrome Murano glass (whose characteristics require a particular ability in glass working, among a few: speed and execution precision) which is created by hand by a Murano Master Glassblower. The illumination is created by a LED system inserted inside the popcorn and locked in by a small minimal metal ferrule.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Variable Dimensions. The average sized artwork is inscribed into a sphere with a diameter of 25cm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The gravitating research of this project is that of applied art. It's no coincidence that the product line that it belongs to is called ARTOOLS. Our attempt is to bring art into the home not as mere decoration but as functional art. In this case, it becomes a light, but in other cases, other needs are satisfied. The goal is always to integrate the concept of the unique piece (or limited series piece) by having it literally come off the stand and become part of everyday life. Thus, art is not only admired but used.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenge here is to find themes suited to connect art and everyday functionality. The complexity of the object lies in its production and form so from a functional and technological point of view the solutions need to be the performing and suited to obtain that exact combination of appearance and functionality.
