| DESIGN NAME: Graceful Dance PRIMARY FUNCTION: Street chair INSPIRATION: Graceful Dance, was inspired by the concept of butterflies at leisure in the woods. To stroll through the park is like butterflies busying themselves in the woods, whether drawing nectar from the blossoms, or dancing gracefully among the falling leaves. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The key character of this artwork is that it blends into the environment naturally like a butterfly resting on the ground regardless of the locations and the flow of space. It can be the focus of the landscape or simply some furniture prepared on the street for anyone to enjoy a rest. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When the steel plate is bent, its structural strength will increase. I use this principle to roll a 8mm thick laser-cut steel plate into a cylindrical shape, and the shape of the work is completed. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This work was created by GLO'ART center in Belgium in November 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Material : Stainless Steel SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Size : 150 * 47 * 45 cm TAGS: (Art, public art, sculpture, Street furniture,stainless steel) RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A safe, simple and straightforward structure was designed to hold up a person’s weight. To reach this goal, a concrete foundation was built underneath each installation to support the weight of two hundred kg. Naturally, the foundation is buried in the ground and hidden from plain sight. Visitors can sit either directly on it or sideway to interact with the artwork at ease. CHALLENGE: 1. The most challenging part is to make the work look natural. And must support about 200 kg of body weight, 2. The solid foundation must be hidden under the ground.
