PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Lamp

INSPIRATION:
The initial idea was to get rid of the standard standing or hanging position of a lamp. I was looking for a new starting point and let the form of the product start from there. This lamp is tensed between ceiling and floor but is still easy to move.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
1 The vertical support is made of Ayous. It has no fragile. I recommend the support to be between 2% and 4% longer than the height of the ceiling. 2 The cylindrical part is made of plywood (polish pine). Thirteen round pieces of 18mm thick are cut and glued together, sandpapered, polished and then treated with varnish. The height can be adjusted by loosening the metal button on the back. 3 A bulb with a mirror top gives the best result. It shines not to hard and it illuminates the inside nicely.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
I started producing the first example in march 2018. Multiple examples have been made since then with all kind of tryouts. Color? Varnish? Oil?.... which bulb holder?.... Which button?...

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
This product is easy to produce in the sense that no expansive materials nor tools are needed. The investment is limited. But it is labor-intense if you want to achieve high quality. 1 Round pieces are cut from plywood. Some are full circles, most are rings. 2 Glue them together while integrating the electricity cable. 3 After intense sandpapering, the tube can be varnished. 4 Connect electrical parts on both end of the cable. The pole is very easy to make. We just have to cut in the correct dimensions and connect with the foot. No varnish needed since it keep its color very well. The lamps is very well suited for mas production as well. With a cnc-cutter and some molds, labor and cost can easily be reduced.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The cylindrical part has a diameter of 210mm and a length of +/- 27cm; inclusive the button on the back. The length of vertical pole depends from the height of the ceiling. If buyer does not mention length, we will send a pole of 280cm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
As an interior designer, I wanted to create something different than the normal standing or hanging lamp. So I came up with the pole that is tensed between floor and ceiling. As a woodcraftsman, I noticed the some plywood looks very nice if glued together and used in this way. I also knew the Polish pine is very sensible for UV beams and the a good surface treatment is needed. As a constructor, I came in touch with Ayous and it’s advantages. There are no buttons, easy to cut and sandpaper and -most important- flexible. As an observer, I came to the conclusion that a mirror bulb and a cable covered with cotton looks best.
