RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Street furniture refers to objects and facilities located in urban public space that provide various services and functions to the public. This project study in identifying and determining the existing issues of people waste and recycling during a different time, this research has provided a comprehensive improvement on a different perspective in design the quality street furniture. It presented a rich literature review with regard to the keywords ‘quality street furniture design and culture’, ‘history, policies, and development of Hong Kong recycling and waste bin’, ‘public space’ and ‘street and recycling and waste bin functions’ to specify the scope of the research area and explain the background of the research. Through reviewing the definitions, contents, types, functions, design principles and spatial characteristic, the existing knowledge of street furniture has been gathered to facilitate understanding of both the focus of the core research and the target of field study. Also, the review of history, policies and development of Hong Kong recycling and waste bin helped identify the changes of nowadays policy that has already occurred in terms of technology advancement, hygiene concern, and environmental protection. After the reviewing the related works and the definitions, which using the different methodology including qualitative and quantitative research method for finding out the result. Also, the opinions of the respondents of the questionnaires and interview which are showing in the result completely and they can totally prove that the five reasons which mentioned by Care2 of why people do not recycle although it is important. The government workers which are providing the answers able to check the drawbacks and pain point in the nowadays existing product. Design principles based on the four factors which including (i) physiology Consideration, (ii) Psychological Consideration, (iii) Culture/ Social Consideration and, (iv) Ideological Consideration are proposed to improve street furniture designed for people recycling and waste reduction.

CHALLENGE:
The augment of Nowadays Hong Kong Reducing Waste Police Firstly, in obviously, the development of recycling and Waste bin which are for people to recycle and protect the environment and hygienic in recent year. A few years ago, citizens are not concerning about the living environment, they littering, spitting and dog fouling in public places everywhere. Our government starts to provide the plan of ‘Waste Reduction Framework Plan’ since 1998. Our GOV unveiled the Waste Reduction Framework Plan (WRFP), which sets out the various initiatives for waste reduction. At the same time, waste separation bins started being placed in housing estates and residential blocks. The 3 colored bins, which collect waste paper, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles, are usually placed on the ground floor of buildings or designated common areas of housing estates. However, some residents find it inconvenient to access the bins. The system also limits the types of items collected for recycling. Therefore, there is the new argument that showing the positive and the negative of the policy. Is that solving the environmental problem efficiency by the Waste Reduction Framework Plan?
