DESIGN NAME: July 15th
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Monument
INSPIRATION: The most civillians lost their lives in 15 Temmuz Bridge, during unsuccessful coup attempt in July 15, 2016 in Turkey. On the bridge, a monument has been planned to keep the memories alive. In our design, the main theme is a young person who is shot but still holds the flag up. A flag is a sacred symbol for all nations which was our main foundation for the project.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: One side of the monument represents a flag which is about to fall. The other side of the monument represent the millions who run to flag to defend the democracy. In dark, monument is lighted with red same as the flag. There are 249 lights on the pole, which represent 249 martyrs raising to the sky.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 35-meters-long monument is surrounded by giant led screen where the presentations will take the place and a wall that has all the martyrs’ names.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our aim was to represent the feelings, sufferings, a nation’s movement to defend the democracy and keep the memories alive about the coup attempt.
CHALLENGE: To design to represent our country’s unity, our nation’s patriotism to keep the memories alive and imagine that night in the most circulated area where Europe and Asia meet with a bridge.
